The challenge

Our team operates multiple service targets within a single codebase, maintaining consistency in business logic while rapidly distributing core features across services. As our services continued to scale, we needed to further enhance our technical foundation to improve operational efficiency beyond the limits of our initial architecture.

In particular, as complexity increased, improving the efficiency of the feedback loop became our most important challenge. To address this, our team began exploring a smarter and more scalable build system.

Choosing Tuist

When evaluating solutions, we focused on three key criteria: seamless integration with our existing environment, speed of adoption within the team, and build acceleration performance.

We reviewed several alternatives with strong performance capabilities, but some required a full redesign of the project structure, which would have created a significant implementation burden. Tuist, by contrast, was a flexible tool that respected the standard environment while enabling immediate performance improvements through configuration optimization.

In particular, Module Cache, which reuses unchanged modules in binary form, and Selective Testing, which validates only the targets within the affected scope, were the optimal solutions for eliminating inefficiencies in our multi-target environment.

The approach

We carried out the project migration in close technical collaboration with the Tuist core team. From the PoC stage, both engineering teams discussed the optimal architecture through online meetings. Afterward, we continued to resolve complex configuration challenges quickly through real-time technical communication.

Despite the time zone differences between regions, the partner team’s prompt support helped us secure a high level of technical completeness, which significantly shortened the project timeline. This organic collaboration became an important foundation for our team to minimize trial and error and establish a stable caching strategy.

The results

After adopting Tuist, we dramatically improved our development feedback loop by eliminating unnecessary duplicated work.

In the local development environment, Tuist’s intelligent caching mechanism significantly reduced validation time compared with our previous approach. This allowed us to create an immersive environment where developers could maintain their flow and receive immediate feedback.

In the CI environment as well, we applied a method that selectively validates only the targets included in the affected scope, substantially reducing total execution time. This led to more efficient use of cloud resources and accelerated releases across the entire team.

What’s next

Based on the success of this migration, our team plans to further strengthen system stability and architectural flexibility.

Going forward, we will enhance our test reporting system to improve the reliability of the test environment, while continuing to pursue a lean structure that reduces the complexity of app targets.

Ultimately, we will use Tuist not merely as a tool, but as an integrated platform that helps developers focus solely on creating essential product value, further advancing our engineering culture.
